For Apple cake 2 cups sugar ½ cup softened butter 2 eggs 4 large apples, cored and grated 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon soda ½ teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons cinnamon 1 teaspoon nutmeg 1 cup chopped nuts (optional- I leave them out) For Vanilla Sauce (Makes ¾ cup.) 1 cup water ½ cup sugar 1 tablespoon cornstarch 2 tablespoons butter 2 teaspoons vanilla extract pinch salt
