Okay, so forget everything you know about American apple pie because this authentic Dutch version has a flavor profile that is much more complex. It relies heavily on almonds, raisins, rum, and warm mix of intoxicating spices. If you use homemade almond paste, start a week in advance, but commercial almond paste can be used right away. Also, the raisins should soak overnight, so plan accordingly.
