Yellowest yellow cake with fudgy chocolate frosting

yellowest yellow cake with fudgy chocolate frosting

Yellow cake should be tender, moist, vanilla-forward, and, well, yellow. These buttermilk-based layers are inspired by a contest-winning upside-down cake by Jessie Sheehan. I called in butter for extra richness and added a pinch of turmeric for color. The chocolate frosting is a riff on Hershey's famous one, which our site knows and loves. To make the chocolate even more chocolaty, I swapped coffee in place of milk.
