Split and black eyed pea potage with garlic aoli

This is one of the recipes from my 365 day adventure in scratch cooking (no packaged foods) which I write about at http://goinggreen.pnn.com. I had a bunch of split peas and black eyed peas that I had soaked and decided to make a stew. My friend said her mother, who grew up in the south, used to serve black-eyed peas with mayonnaise so I decided to update with a garlic aoli.
