Sand tart sugar cookies

This cookie recipe was passed down to me from my mother, and from my grandmother to her. Although my family does not have many family recipes, this is one of the few that we keep coming back to. We always make them around the holidays, and they are usually the cookies that Santa gets on Christmas Eve. (He keeps coming back, so they must be good!) The recipe is similar to a sugar cookie recipe, but with some slight variations and a cute almond in the middle.
