This recipe came about when I saw a fresh loaf of challah that was begging me to buy it. I brought it home, had no idea what to do with it, and let it sit on my counter for about five days. By the time my initiative kicked in, its freshness kicked out. Just as I was deciding to turn it into bread pudding, my boyfriend informed me it would be better with apples. Touche. I made a caramel sauce because it's classic with apples and because I was worried the pudding would still need some more moisture given it was so dry at the time. I gave it a test run, added some amaretto, and now it's pretty much my go-to, crowd-pleaser dessert.
