There are smells that pull me back in time. Back to a summer drinking ginger soda from a glass bottle outside of the Co-op. Nights star gazing listening to Counting Crows. The smell of tea leaves and warped wood bring me there to that insecure feeling – longing – growing up. It’s easy to romanticize moments of memories and youth. People who flashed in a pan now float in my memory like a reoccurring dream. When I do go back there in my mind, usually when listening to Counting Crows, I see someone I barely recognize and she isn’t me anymore. It almost feels by now that time was nonexistent. It belongs in the haze of childhood when in reality it wasn’t long ago at all. And it was real. Soon the New Year would bring a new perspective and a shedding of skin. It was change in its most welcomed form. Life morphs so fast that my memories feel like they are so easily accessible.
