This sakkarai pongal recipe / chakkara pongal is mainly prepared on the day of pongal also called 'Thai pongal' in Tamilnadu. This is a Tamil harvest festival where the first harvested rice (new rice) is boiled with lentils, milk and sweetened with jaggery.
